"I volunteer
for RCC on the Crisis Line. I have been well trained to
take the calls. I try to picture the person calling and
try to speak to them as I would a good friend who has gone
through this experience. Although I don't always succeed
I feel honored to help a caller through whatever they are
going through--- if only for a moment. I know that other
volunteers are available around the clock to take calls,
too. It's a great group of people to be affiliated with.
Who value both you and your gift of time.
Join in whenever you can. Look on this site for information
about upcoming events and trainings. You be so glad you
did."

"Did you know that 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year there are two people
in this city who are ready to drop everything, to walk
away from their dinner, their family, their job, because
a stranger is in pain? Now, I don’t know who all
of these people are. I feel privileged to have met a few,
but I don’t know them all. I don’t know if
they are gay or straight; I don’t know if they are
black or white; I don’t know if they are Baptist
or Methodist, or Jewish or Buddhist or atheist. I don’t
know why they do what they do.
An old Quaker adage says “Let your life speak.” When all the trappings
fall away, when it really matters, what does your life say? what do you want
it to say?"

"There have been people
in my life who have been sexually abused. When I learned
about volunteering for RCC, it just seemed the right thing
to do...I could help people though some of their darkest
hours. I like to think that I was able to help."
